Creating a web-based application for management information systems
A case study on technology consulting
The client's is a medium enterprise involved in data capture and process. Being a medium enterprise, the infrastructure was huge and so was the number of processes for planning, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting, consuming a substantial portion of person-hours. Moreover, the processes were error prone, which added to wastage of time. In addition, the individual processes were not integrated into the current systems, leading to costly duplication of efforts.
The Challenge
The client wanted an application that could integrate the individual planning, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting process, and integrates them into the current environment.
The Solution
Based on the client’s requirements a web-based portal application was developed. A careful combination of technologies was used to increase the functionality and user friendliness of the application. The application was merged into the current intranet environment across all locations where the client had its offices. The developed application allowed the managers of each and every department to feed information at the same time, produce reports, and take precautionary measures in real time.
Results
Now that the application has been developed an is in use
- Managers and supervisors can spend more time on value-added activities rather than creating and duplicating reports.
- Inbuilt functionalities of the application checks for simple errors such as duplication of data, date and time, etc
- The management can generate instant report and forecast on a real time basis.
